God Has A Plan For YOU

Prayer Requests

Learning God's Word is  one of the most exciting adventures you will ever experience.  It's a living breathing thing.

It changes everything!  The Women of the Word was created to help women learn to have a closer relationship with God through His Word, the Bible.

"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness."

2 Timothy 3:16

Welcome to W.O.W. ! We are in process of reorganizing so please come back and visit us as we update our site.  But here is the update as of February, 2009.
Being a ministry for women, by women, and to women means that we try to provide spiritual support for growth in  relationship with God through the study of the Bible. W.O.W. was started by me, Peg Christensen, who was busy working in the community as a pharmaceutical sales representative when God lead me to step out and begin a city-wide Bible study for women in a central location, our local convention center called the MidAmerica Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  I thought God had made a mistake! Fearful and feeling very "under qualified" I started W.O.W. in 2006 and since then hundreds of women began to learn how to open their Bibles, read it and understand how to have a real and personal relationship with God.  Many have started their own Bible studies in their homes and churches.  Some have begun to meet in coffee shops and book stores to talk and review what they are learning and sharing the way God is working in their lives.
The ministry in 2009 is undergoing a change in direction in order to reach further into the community to women we would not normally know. Women in crisis.  Women who do not attend church. Perhaps they ended up in jail, pregnant or are on the streets homeless.  These are the women I believe God wants me to reach through W.O.W. My desire is to keep it simple and train other women to do the following:

  • Reach women with the good news of who Jesus Christ is and how He gave His life for them.
  • Help them learn how to open their Bible, read and understand it.
  • Encourage women to find a good Bible teaching church to grow in.
  • Equip women through small group Bible studies or one-on-one mentoring.

Our new direction involves creating a mentoring tool called "Soul Sisters".  It is designed to be used as a tool when coming along side women to teach them how to be transformed through a relationship with God.  It is meant to be a tool to be used in relationship. God's Word says we "must be renewed by the transformation of our minds" as it says in Romans 12:1.
Women may come to us through Gabriel's Corner, (a crisis pregnancy center in Council Bluffs, Iowa) or from our local jail, (Good News Jail and Prison Ministry) or any number of other organizations. If these women want and express a need  for a mentor to help them to grow into a relationship with Christ, that's when the "Soul Sisters" mentoring tool will  be helpful.  We will train a S.S. to be a mentor who prays for them, meets with them, and help them find a Bible teaching church that will love and support them. There will be specific S.S. guidelines and clear boundaries so mentors clearly understand the level of commitment required. The tool will be made available at no cost and we will do everything we can to help equip you in YOUR community to reach women!
Our desire is to make this a "lifestyle" type of mentoring similar to "organic mentoring" which is not a highly structured format.  Using a framework that is adaptable to your "mentee".  We all have limited time, families, jobs and other church commitments, so we want it to be incorporating into those activities you already have going. Stay tuned for training materials and training dates!
